• Gerrit Grunwald has released another little fun Friday component – a button that transforms into a progress indicator – very nice!
• Samir Hadzic has two posts this week. Firstly, he has a post about ‘close options for TabPane‘, and secondly, a post about the importance of image caching when dealing with lots of images in JavaFX.
• I released Scenic View 9.0.0, which should only be used by people actually running JDK 9 – because it won’t work under JDK 8!

A heap of great links this week. People don’t seem to be slowing down in the lead-in to JavaOne. I’m getting incredibly excited – I can’t wait to see you all again! 🙂

• Rob Terpilowski has posted about mapping directions with JavaFX using the GMapsFX directions API.
• John Sirach has posted an update about the PiDome client software.
• Gerrit Grunwald has created a cool looking CardNavigation control for his Friday Fun Component.
• Jens Deters has been working to add module support to the FontAwesomeFX project – very cool!
• Samir Hadzic (a major contributor to the ControlsFX project) has posted about answering the question ‘is my Stage visible?‘
• Edvin Syse has posted a video of a cool new feature he has developed on top of the JavaFX TableView – support for expanding rows (and replacing them with input fields). The only downside – it looks like it is baked into TornadoFX – it would be really cool to see this in Java in a project like ControlsFX.
• Edvin is also exploring the development of a data grid control – you can see another video of that in action as well.
• Peter Rogge has released Lib-Tile-Demo v0.2.0. In this release he has added the option for the developer to style the background colour with CSS. That mean it’s now possible to use a Linear- and/or RadialGradient colour for the background colour.
• Andrew Oliver has built ScraM, a Minecraft programming tool with a JavaFX drag-and-drop GUI.

I know I sound like a broken record, but it is now only four weeks until JavaOne. I’m quietly panicking over here in New Zealand about how much more I have to get done, and how little time I have to get it done in! I hope you’re all more organised than I am feeling right now! 🙂

• Adam Walczak has created and open sourced PDF Decorator, a JavaFX-based tool for adding watermarks and backgrounds to PDF files.
• Tom Eugelink has posted about adding support for repeating appointments in the Agenda control that ships with JFXtras.
• Gerrit Grunwald has posted yet another of his ‘Friday Fun Components‘.
• Thomas Nield is writing a free ebook covering RxJavaFX and RxKotlinFX in detail.
• Edvin Syse has posted a video demonstrating ‘zero install JavaFX themes with TornadoFX‘.
• Peter Rogge has released Lib-Tile-Demo 0.1.0. As he puts it, “this project is a demonstration application to show the features from the project Lib-Tile with it’s included sublibraries”.
• I have a final reminder for people attending JavaOne who are part of the Java desktop community – register now for the seventh annual Java Desktop Lunch, or you will miss out as numbers are limited and we are close to hitting the limit.
• Jyloo Software has released SyntheticaFX 0.8.1, which includes a number of new controls for JavaFX.

Things are getting quiet around here! As I say every year around this time, people must be starting to think about JavaOne and planning their talks, and open source projects and news tends to go a little bit quiet 🙂 It’s only a month to go until JavaOne now!

• Gerrit Grunwald has written an article on sharing your location with friends using the cloud (as well as JavaFX and Gluon on mobile devices).
• Peter Rogge has released ‘Lib-Tile’ 0.1.0. As he puts it: “Lib-Tile is a multi Maven project written in JavaFX and NetBeans 8.0.2 and provides the functionalities to use and handle easily Tiles in your JavaFX application. A Tile is per definition a little transparent Image which overlay a background-color or -image with the help of repetitions from the image in a layer.”
• There have been updates to a number of open source projects, including Medusa, RxJavaFX, the NetBeans IDE afterburner.fx plugin, and SmartCSV.fx.

• Otto Garcia has been working on Musicott, an application that manages and plays music files, and is written in JavaFX.
• Rob Terpilowski has a post about mapping an address with JavaFX using the GMapsFX geocoding API.
• Edvin Syse has been working on OSGi support in TornadoFX, his lightweight JavaFX Framework for Kotlin. He has posted a video as well.
• Andreas Billmann has posted a presentation on SmartCSV.fx (use your space bar to progress through the ‘slides’).
• Kamil Baczkowicz has released mqtt-spy 0.5.3. This release looks to resolve a few UI bugs, it seems.

Yikes, it’s August already – that means that JavaOne is now ‘next month’….that seems way too soon! 🙂

• Gerrit Grunwald has released a new version of his Medusa gauge library, as well as another of his Friday Fun Components (yet another gauge!)
• I did a guest post over at the Java Source blog about Java clients at JavaOne.
• Adam Carroll has posted about user interface testing with TestFX. A highly recommended read.
• Andreas Billmann has released SmartCSV.fx 0.4. The app is looking very nice and polished!
• Edvin Syse and Thomas Nield have been working on videos / code samples of TornadoFX / RxKotlinFX functionality. Firstly, Edvin has a short teaser video on TornadoFX. Secondly, Thomas has a short video as well as sample code showing integration of TornadoFX with RxKotlinFX.

A heap of releases this week, and a few good articles too. It’s now only two months until JavaOne, so I hope everyone is starting to think about their presentations, projects, and social activities. I can’t wait to get over to San Francisco again and see you all – it is always one of the highlights of the year for me, and I hope for you all as well!

• Jeff Martin has written about converting JavaFX applications to JavaScript to run in the browser.
• Gerrit Grunwald has released a new release of his Medusa gauge library.
• Jens Deters has released FontAwesomeFX 8.12.
• Rob Terpilowski has announced that GMapsFX 2.0.7 has been released. The main feature in this version is to allow the use of custom marker/pin images, rather than relying on the default Google images.
• Carl Walker has posted about creating custom flat windows in JavaFX. This is a three-part series, all of which are available online now.
• Dirk Lemmermann has two posts this week. Firstly, he has an interview with the developers of the JavaFX-based SkedPal application. Secondly, he has announced the release of FlexGanttFX 1.6.
• Adam Carroll has announced the release of VocabHunter v1.0.16. VocabHunter is a system to help learners of foreign languages.

• Gerrit Grunwald has been mentioned a number of times this week. Firstly, he was interviewed about his experiences and thoughts on JavaFX. Secondly, he published another of his Friday Fun Components, this time a simple ‘ChargeControl‘. Finally, he is presenting a ‘custom controls’ talk to the Silicon Valley JavaFX Users Group on July 20. As usual this will be live-streamed, so you can attend from anywhere in the world.
• Almas Baimagambetov let me know he has released an update to his FXGL project. FXGL is a JavaFX 8 Game Library written in Java and Kotlin.
• Edvin Syse has posted updated documentation for the view model in TornadoFX. TornadoFX is a lightweight JavaFX Framework for Kotlin.
