FX Experience Has Gone Read-Only
I've been maintaining FX Experience for a really long time now, and I love hearing from people who enjoy my weekly links roundup. One thing I've noticed recently is that maintaining two sites (FX Experience and JonathanGiles.net) takes more time than ideal, and splits the audience up. Therefore, FX Experience will become read-only for new blog posts, but weekly posts will continue to be published on JonathanGiles.net. If you follow @FXExperience on Twitter, I suggest you also follow @JonathanGiles. This is not the end - just a consolidation of my online presence to make my life a little easier!
tl;dr: Follow me on Twitter and check for the latest news on JonathanGiles.net.

As with the recent ControlsFX update release, I’m happy to announce the release of Scenic View 8.6.0. This release brings compatibility with JavaFX 8u60. Let me know if you run into any further problems. You can download it from the main Scenic View page.
As with ControlsFX, I will also be presenting a BOF at JavaOne on Scenic View. If you are in the neighbourhood I hope you can come along and we can chat about the future of this very useful tool!

Update: Just use the 8.40.10 final release now!
With the recent release of JDK 8u60, a lot of people are reporting that ControlsFX no longer works. This is because private APIs that ControlsFX depends on changed in 8u60, and as such we have needed to update our library to deal with this. For those of you who are using JDK 8u60 and want to make use of ControlsFX, please use the latest 8.40.10-SNAPSHOT builds that are available on Sonatype.
ControlsFX 8.40.10 will be released in the next few months. There are a lot of pull requests to merge, and this release will probably be quite a feature-packed release, if the community contributions are anything to go by! Also, Eugene and I will be presenting about ControlsFX again at JavaOne this year, so if you are attending, be sure to come along and say hi!

Wow, it’s been a really, really, long time since I last posted. This was because I was away on vacation (twice!), and in between those two vacations I had a lot of catching up to do. Now that things are settling down a little it is time to get these posts back up and running. I should start by saying that I’ve almost certainly missed a heap of news in the past few weeks, so apologies in advance for not hitting all the important topics – but hopefully most are covered. If I missed something you did, please email me with the link. With that said, lets get into it!
- Tom Schindl has been very busy – he has posted a number of posts, so I will link to them here simply by their titles: ‘e(fx)clipse 2.0 – Is released‘, ‘Eclipse Democamp Season – JavaFX smart code editors (eg for Google Dart)‘, ‘Defining source editors with a DSL‘, ‘Developing a source code editor in JavaFX (without e4 and OSGi)‘, and ‘Developing a source code editor in JavaFX (on the Eclipse 4 Application Platform)‘.
- Dirk Lemmermann posted two new JavaFX tips: one suggesting the benefits of the JavaFX Canvas, and the other about making use of animation.
- Hendrik Ebbers has blogged about his explorations in recreating the Google material design in JavaFX. This is something that seems to be getting more popular now – I’ve heard of a few people working in this area, and of course Gluon is doing similar with the Charm Glisten library.
- Sébastien Bordes has announced the release of JRebirth Application Framework 8.0.2. In addition to this, there is a post on how JRebirth deploys to JCenter and Maven Central.
- Jens Deters has announced that MQTT.fx 0.0.16 has been released.
- Gail Anderson has posted a two part post on using JavaFX in a NetBeans application.
- Christoph Nahr has posted about how DPI scaling is fixed in JavaFX 8u60.
- Dmitry Leskov emailed to let me know that Excelsior JET 11 beta 1 is available, and with it comes Java SE 8 and JavaFX 8 support.
- Erel Uziel emailed me to let me know about B4J, which is a free tool for cross platform apps based on JavaFX.
- The Gluon blog (disclaimer: I’m involved with Gluon) has a number of posts, with titles such as ‘José Pereda joins Gluon‘, ‘Comments App: Getting started with Gluon Charm‘, ‘The new Gluon Plugin for IntelliJ IDEA‘, and ‘Gluon at JavaOne‘.
- The SIB Visions blog has three relevant posts. Firstly, the announcement that JVx JavaFX UI 1.0 has been released. Secondly, about integrating JVx JavaFX UI and VisionX. Finally, about JavaFXPorts with iOS.
Phew! That’s that for another week! Catch you all again next week! 🙂
