A few nice links this week – enjoy 🙂

Jens Deters has announced the release of FontAwesomeFX 8.6, which includes support for the ‘material’ icon font pack.
Pedro Duque Vieira has styled two more JavaFX UI controls to look like the Microsoft ‘metro’ style: this week it was ListView and ChoiceBox.
Continuing with the media blitz by Johan Vos about Gluon, he was recently interviewed by Adam Bien.
Speaking of Gluon, it was recently announced that Gluon is increasing its support of the JavaFX ecosystem by offering builds of JavaFX embedded for armv6 hard float architectures (i.e. Raspberry Pi).
Dirk Lemmermann released FlexGanttFX 1.3. He also posted a video of recurrence editing in CalendarFX. Looking very nice 🙂

Good links this week – enjoy!

This week Johan Vos went on a bit of a media blitz. Firstly, he presented about JavaFX on Mobile to the Silicon Valley JavaFX Users Group. Secondly, he was interviewed by Voxxed, with the interview titled ‘Gluon Bids to Pick Up Commercial Slack on JavaFX‘.
Robert Colton has created a docking control for JavaFX called DockFX.
Christoph Keimel has posted about extending the JavaFX ComboBox and ChoiceBox.
Pedro Duque Vieira has styled the JavaFX DatePicker control with a Windows Metro style for his JMetro project.
Almas Baimagambetov has created FXGL, a “simple and easy to use Java 2D gaming library based on JavaFX 8”

Johan Vos has an article in Java Magazine about ‘Writing JavaFX Applications for Mobile Devices‘.
Speaking of Johan, this week he will be presenting (virtually) at the Silicon Valley JavaFX Users Group on the topic of ‘JavaFX on Mobile‘.
Johan also posted about how JavaFXPorts has a new home inside Gluon. A similar announcement was also posted on the Gluon website.
Speaking of Gluon (and the usual disclaimer: I am involved with Gluon), they opened their Gluon Store this week to begin selling Gluon Charm licenses and open source support services. Given how much the guys there have put into the community, now is your chance to show your appreciation and help to grow the business into something that can take Java on mobile forward.
Jens Deters has announced that FontAwesomeFX 8.5 has been released.
I was pleased to see that recently my JEP for improving JavaFX UI controls and CSS APIs in JDK 9 has been approved and targeted for JDK 9.
Pedro Duque Vieira has styled the JavaFX Spinner control to have a metro styling, as part of his JMetro project.
Michael Hoffer has released two new releases of his SonoAir project recently: ‘SonoAir 1.0 (Beta 3.2) With Proper Group Detection‘, and then ‘SonoAir v1.0 (Beta 4.0)‘.
Carl has two posts this week: ‘Clearing JavaFX AnchorPane Padding‘, and ‘Don’t Just Tell Me. Show Me with Custom Alerts in JavaFX 8.‘

JavaFX links of the week, August 3

Wow, it’s been a really, really, long time since I last posted. This was because I was away on vacation (twice!), and in between those two vacations I had a lot of catching up to do. Now that things are settling down a little it is time to get these posts back up and running. I should start by saying that I’ve almost certainly missed a heap of news in the past few weeks, so apologies in advance for not hitting all the important topics – but hopefully most are covered. If I missed something you did, please email me with the link. With that said, lets get into it!

Tom Schindl has been very busy – he has posted a number of posts, so I will link to them here simply by their titles: ‘e(fx)clipse 2.0 – Is released‘, ‘Eclipse Democamp Season – JavaFX smart code editors (eg for Google Dart)‘, ‘Defining source editors with a DSL‘, ‘Developing a source code editor in JavaFX (without e4 and OSGi)‘, and ‘Developing a source code editor in JavaFX (on the Eclipse 4 Application Platform)‘.
Dirk Lemmermann posted two new JavaFX tips: one suggesting the benefits of the JavaFX Canvas, and the other about making use of animation.
Hendrik Ebbers has blogged about his explorations in recreating the Google material design in JavaFX. This is something that seems to be getting more popular now – I’ve heard of a few people working in this area, and of course Gluon is doing similar with the Charm Glisten library.
Sébastien Bordes has announced the release of JRebirth Application Framework 8.0.2. In addition to this, there is a post on how JRebirth deploys to JCenter and Maven Central.
Jens Deters has announced that MQTT.fx 0.0.16 has been released.
Gail Anderson has posted a two part post on using JavaFX in a NetBeans application.
Christoph Nahr has posted about how DPI scaling is fixed in JavaFX 8u60.
Dmitry Leskov emailed to let me know that Excelsior JET 11 beta 1 is available, and with it comes Java SE 8 and JavaFX 8 support.
Erel Uziel emailed me to let me know about B4J, which is a free tool for cross platform apps based on JavaFX.
The Gluon blog (disclaimer: I’m involved with Gluon) has a number of posts, with titles such as ‘José Pereda joins Gluon‘, ‘Comments App: Getting started with Gluon Charm‘, ‘The new Gluon Plugin for IntelliJ IDEA‘, and ‘Gluon at JavaOne‘.
The SIB Visions blog has three relevant posts. Firstly, the announcement that JVx JavaFX UI 1.0 has been released. Secondly, about integrating JVx JavaFX UI and VisionX. Finally, about JavaFXPorts with iOS.

JavaFX links of the week, June 16

Hi all. This is my last post until mid July, as I am away on vacation until then and won’t be able to keep current with all that is happening in the JavaFX world. Apologies, but I hope to see you all again in a months time! 🙂 Now, on with the links.

David Gilbert has announced the release of JFreeSVG 3.0. JFreeSVG is a ‘fast and lightweight API for creating SVG content in Java’, and this release features a number of improvements.
Gluon have announced a developer preview of the Gluon Charm library (and corresponding Gluon Cloud service). This library is intended to provide APIs for creating cross-platform mobile applications in Java with a ‘material design’ look, whilst also being able to access the hardware of various devices in a platform-neutral way. Disclosure: as of recently, I am on the advisory board for Gluon.
Rob Terpilowski has posted a MVC tutorial that uses the NetBeans Rich Client Platform (RCP) and JavaFX.
Tai Hu from Vero Analytics has blogged about why they chose to use JavaFX in their products.
Tobias Jonas has created KeyboardFX, a ‘minimalistic keyboard event framework for all JavaFX keyboard events’.
Sylwia Dorota Kedzia has a post on how to enable Text to Speech in JavaFX and Swing Applications.
Carl has a post on how to configure Guice to work with JavaFX.
Tyler Coles has a post on ‘building reactive apps on JavaFX‘.
